The jester's hat

There is a video going around that takes apart the entrepreneur-digital-nomad-Pilates-crypto scene in Bali. It builds a matrix inside the matrix. Somebody in it explains, with a straight face, that they got an AI coach for their AI coach.

It is obviously AI. Nobody is fooled for a second, and it does not want you to be. It is also very good, and it is not slop. Which breaks the lazy rule everybody is carrying around, the one that says machine-made is the crime. The data already broke that rule anyway: the punishment attaches to work that reads as machine-made while presenting itself as something else. The Bali video presents itself as exactly what it is.

So the penalty is not for looking like AI. It is for looking like AI while pretending you are not.

That distinction is old. The jester says the unsayable and survives, because he is wearing the hat. Everybody in the room knows what he is, which is precisely what lets him say it. The moment he takes the hat off and pretends to be a courtier, he is just a liar in a costume, and courts have never been kind to those. Self-awareness is the hat.

It is also the honest reading of the uncanny valley. The valley only opens under something that is trying to pass. A thing that never claimed to be real never has to cross it. Announce the machine, use it to say something true, and the discomfort has nowhere to attach.

Now look at the marketers currently flooding your feed. Bro, bro, bro. Not one of them is in on the joke, because not one of them has ever suspected they might be it. You cannot direct a joke you are standing inside of.

And that is not a skills gap you fix with a better tool. It is the person. Hand the most advanced model on earth to somebody who has never once wondered how they come across, and it will render their obliviousness in 4K, forty times a day, with your logo on it.
